He moves through the hall, trying his best just to ignore everyone who happens to glance at him as they pass. He hates having to go to the fucking cafeteria. He hates having to leave the dormitory, period. But he hasn’t eaten since yesterday afternoon, and it is now approaching evening of the next day. He’s starving enough that he’ll endure the stares and gossip and general annoyance of having to wait in line for some shitty food.

Every day it’s the same goddamn thing. He gets to the register, and they ask for his SeeD or Cadet number. He tells them he doesn’t have one. They have to page for clearance. This holds up the line for at least a minute or so, and if people aren’t already mumbling insulting and/or gossipy shit about him, they start when they notice that he’s the one holding up the line.

It’s almost not even worth the food.

As he takes his tray and proceeds to a vacant table, he overhears a very indiscreet “DotNA piece of shit,” on the way. He can’t tell whether it was directed at him or just part of a conversation about him between SeeDs. It doesn’t matter. He’s not going to do what he would if he wasn‘t on probation, which is figure out who said it and take a lunch tray to their face. He’s just going to pretend he didn’t hear it.

He drops his tray down on the surface of the table loudly and sits.

He’s on his way to Leonhart’s office to receive his gunblade and discuss the possibility of earning his freedom back through cooperation on an upcoming DotNA HQ infiltration mission. He moves at a brisk stride, very eager to jump on the opportunity this presents for him. It’s a chance. It’s hope. It’s just what he needs.

He could have stayed in Fisherman’s Horizon that night.

He didn't because he knew removing himself from the situation was the best way to keep her safe and protect her mission. It was the only option he felt totally at peace with; the first time he really made a premeditated decision to do the right thing. Even if it was going to cost him everything, she was worth walking that line. He did it for her. If she ever cared for him at all, the least she could do is admit to it now. She’s just a child.

He's not doing anything for anyone, anymore. Starting now, he's doing everything for himself.

A part of him will always miss her, but he’s done with her.

awww this part is so sad >_< I love how you are able to display Reese's inner emotions!!! It's a good conclusion for the failed stardie romance :[ I like how Reese dissects everything, lingering on FH and then just the scenery of him wandering around aimlessly around Garden. It makes Reese such a powerful character!!!
