Another Alternate Idea

Okay, I'm of the opinion that every single person needs to approve of whatever we decide we're going to do. After you made your post, Ash, you changed my mind about our original "alternate idea." I don't support doing anything you're not totally comfortable or happy with doing.

This idea might come off as kinda weird or not all that well thought out, but bear with me. I just came up with it moments ago, I'm still thinking it through as I type this actually. >_<

System reform: There are no "Role Players."

There are "Story Tellers" and there are "Story Writers" (STs and SWs, duh XD)

There are a few (2 or 3?) STs. It is the responsibility of the STs to maintain all of the Non-Player Characters; all the extras and the villians of the RP. Basically, the world around the the main characters. The reason for that is this: The STs will be the ones making the posts that actually move the RP. It takes NPCs to do this. Also, certain people need to be in control of the villains. If they are free game for anyone to RP, their character will be ruined. I am of the opinion that even the most minor characters should be assigned to someone.

Everyone who is not an ST is an SW. The SW's basically run the plotting forum, where all the juicy drama planning takes place. It is the SW's responsibility to come up with plot twists and turns, to bounce around ideas and build our story. STs don't have too much to do with this. Maybe they can add little twists here and there, but the main point is to leave the broad strokes of the plot to the SWs.

The STs are there to incorporate the plot ideas smoothly and efficiently, make sure nothing clashes and keep a decent storyline intact.

I know the idea is sort of out-there, but I feel like it might be a happy medium. Some of us are just too busy to ST, but still want to be part of the plotting process. The incorporation of SWs would solve that. And some of us genuinely like agonizing over monster ST posts and juggling fifty million characters. Having STs who work the plot pieces into the story and handle the more technical side of things would solve the issue of the RP getting too jumbled and crazy.

I am not necessarily in support of secrecy. That's not what is appealing to me about limiting ST status. What is appealing about it is just that it seems like a much safer way to go. Thinking in the best interests of the RP. I don't want us to write ourselves into a mess we can't write ourselves out of... it would be sad to see this RP end that way >_<

I am just as against a monarchy RP as any of us--I never want things to become like that again. -_- But I do think that if EVERYONE can move the plot, the plot is going to inevitably trip all over itself. So yeah... I like the idea of having specific ST people because it makes things seem a little more controlled and safe.

Ok, so I guess I haven't really given any feedback on this. First of all, I would just like to say that I am definitely in no position to be an ST. I think most of you guys will admit that I am pretty flaky when it comes to posting as it is right now, because especially with school starting, I'm gonna be so busy.

However, I did sort of feel like my presence in the RP was more just "adding extra charries" to the mission for the sake of RPing because I was one of the few that wasn't an ST.

In light of that, I really do like the idea of SW's, in that those of us are SW's will be able to engage a little more with the story. Like Ash said, a lot of the times, I'm constantly worrying that my posts might change or alter the plot or whatever. So I definitely think its a good a idea to think of ST's as the 'framers' of the plot, while SW's can mix around whatever happens within the story.

meh, *huggles* you only feel like an "extra" probably because Gemma and Jax haven't had to go through any tragedy or great losses yet! They need more drama! >D we'll just have to plan some ebil things to put them through in the sequel.

I feel like being a SW will be like being an ST too since they're the ones who gets to burn brain cells and mold the story. (If my understanding of this idea is correct >.<) I kind of like the idea of leaving things to the ST and be able to voice out your ideas without the pressure of having to disable the plot if you can't give your two cents.

I don't know, does anyone have any new ideas to bring to the table? I'm all out ;_; We have some brilliant minds here, we can come to some kinda compromise.

I wasn't sure which of these threads in this area to stick this in, but I know I wanted to say it somewhere... so I'll just stick it here hahah.


I'm not an ST here, but speaking from the ST perspective back in tha Trin days...

Ash and Myacu, you guys have expressed concerns about having an ST who does all the plotting, because you feel like if you don't know the plot you might mess something up. That's the impression I got anyway, if I'm wrong here let me know >.<

I just wanted to say (and and this is my own take on things) that the ST is supposed to be able to improvise and work around the decisions to RP characters make and the actions that follow. It is really part of their job as ST. Idk, I don't look at it as the ST guiding the characters along this linear plot path, and everyone just following along... maybe that's the way Trin used to be, and for that I am extremely ashamed and sorry.

I look at the ST job as more like the opposite side of the coin. The ST is supposed to plot out interesting dilemmas, create a network of good and bad and ambiguous NPCs, and it is like the RPers job to figure and fight their way through all of these things. It's sort of like a tennis match, you know? With both sides trying to out-wit each other through the use of characters.

With that said, the RPers actually have significant influence on the plot. It's THEIR characters that are living this story, making decisions that influence what happens directly.

Like okay... for example:

When I read that scene where the SeeDs and Opps come into confrontation with the DotNA in the Shumi village, where Reaver gets shot, I thought it was so cool. I could tell that the STs did not plan on Reaver pulling his gun on Waverly, and they had to improvise by having Xu's lover (lmao) shoot him. THINGS SHOULD BE LIKE THAT! The characters SHOULD do WHATEVER they want. It keeps everything so interesting!

If we HAPPEN to do an ST thing and I HAPPEN to be one of the STs I would want for your character to do whatever he/she would in any given situation, and let ME deal with the fallout. >.< From my personal ST perspective, if I plot something out and your character throws a kink in it, shame on me for not plotting it out well enough! The only thing I can think of that would actually bother me is if someone KILLED a major NPC. But I wouldn't dare kill off a character without talking to the RPer who owns that character first, so it goes both ways!

I'm not assuming I'm going to be an ST, and I'm not even assuming we're going with the system where STs are necessary. I just wanted to throw this out there so it is known that this is the way I feel about things, to clear up any confusions or misconceptions.

I dunno where to post this, since there's so many ideas, so I'll post it here.

I kinda prefer the original (?) Idea of having two main STs, and having the old admins as backup as Ani suggested, but without the SWs cos I think it might take a while before all the SWs can agree on a mutual idea? With only two STs, the control would be better and it also gives us a sense of mystery that makes us wonder about what's gonna happen next. This contributes to the RP being more interesting (cos we'd get more excited about stuff we don't know...it's human nature >D)

For me, it doesn't matter if it's controlled by one or a few STs, cos I have faith that Lex wouldn't repeat what she did, but having one more is just a safeguard in case one of them have difficulties, or suddenly becomes very busy, you know?

So yeah, that's my take.

nah but really... I want to make it so that somehow everyone gets their way.

And it's not decided that I'm even gonna be an ST, is it?!?
