Alright, I think (and I hope everyone agrees ) that this is relatively fair:
We're going to have Active Characters and Inactive Characters. Because I am such a lazy person, I'm just going to refer to them as AC's and IC's for the time being. XD The AC's will be the characters involved in the mission; the ones you can post for in the "story" thread. The IC's will be the ones we're leaving at "HQ" (which is, more or less, Balamb town.) You can post for IC's at any time, just not in the main story thread where the actual mission is taking place. They will have to remain in only the Misc. Sessions area until if/when you replace them with a different character of yours.
Everyone must have at least one designated IC at all times. Including me, of course. There are only two ways you can be exempt from this rule:
1) If, instead of making a character IC, you'd rather just totally write it out of the story i.e. kill it, make it give up on the mission and leave Balamb, etc. The main goal here is for everyone to set aside a character. If you don't think you'd really use the rotation and would rather just nix a character completely and forget about it, that's totally fine with me. They're all your characters, so it's your call.
2) If you only have one character. Obviously this applies to Al. Ash and Mya, if you decide to write one of yours out permanently, this'll of course apply to you as well.
I guess now I'll attempt to explain my reasoning with that...
With the exception of Al, some of us have two characters and some of us have three. I originally thought about making the rule something more like "everyone just gets one character from now on," but that means that some of us would have to give up two. Even though it would even our numbers out, I don't think that's a fair way of doing things.
So next I thought: Well, what if only Ani, Lil, and I gave up a character? Again, it would even us all out, but I don't think it's a fair way to go either. I personally have already decided to give one up so it's not me I'm worried about here, it's Ani and Lil. I don't want to single them out as the only ones who have to give anything up. Everyone has always had the option of a third character, they (& me obviously) were just the only ones who ever took advantage of it. I guess it didn't turn out to be such a good idea in the grand scheme of things, but hell, that isn't their fault.
Of course, the three of us having three characters each means we are much bigger contributers to the whole "surplus of characters" problem here. So, in effort to balance things out a little better as far as that goes, I've come up with this little sub-rule...
People with 3 Characters (Ani, Lil, myself): If you write a character out of the story, you can't bring it back. Two is the new official "max." (So basically, the only way you can possibly have three is if you already have three and one of them is IC.)
People with 2 Characters (Mya, Ash): If you write a character out, you can still bring it back but it must be IC until you rotate your current AC out of the story and make the IC your new AC.
In conclusion, I guess my perspective is that everyone giving up the same amount, regardless of what they already have, is the most "fair" way to do this.
If anyone strongly disagrees with what I've said, definitely speak up now and don't be afraid to tell me if you think I am being totally tyrannical and unfair. (Seriously guys, I don't want anyone to harbor any dissatisfaction with this. I want everyone to be happy more than I want my "way," I cannot stress that enough.)
If no one has strong feelings about it then this is how we'll do it.
This isn't going to actually go into effect until the group returns to Squall, but I'd still like for everyone to reply to this thread as soon as they've chosen their IC and announce it. Or you can just send me a message if you like, it doesn't matter. The reason I want to know now is, depending on what characters you guys choose, I might have to adjust the plans for upcoming events. There's not a huge rush on this or anything, I just want to know as soon as you've decided.
And I guess I might as well go first. I'm rotating out Lawric.
