Chapter 7: The End of the Beginning

Deo quickly casted three curagas at the hooded figure, hoping that it redirected towards his teammates on the bridge.

"yeah..."Deo scratched his head and looked at Jun awkwardly, "you basically just chucked a high level ultima spell at whoever's on our team up ahead. Better hope it's not one of them crazy chicks. But hey! don't worry about it we already attacked them twice with flare. Let's just keep that a little secret." he winked.

Deo listened to Jaime explain that the plan was to.... run across a rickety, swaying bridge with their eyes tightly shut?

"Hey sounds like my kind of plan." Deo shrugged and whipped out the bandanna he always had hanging out of his back pocket. He lifted the bandanna up to his eyes and blindfolded himself, then held out his hand and grasped the nearest person's.

"Ready?" Deo asked, "Okay let's do this!" he suddenly yanked on the person's hand and began running across the bridge. 'hurry! Before he finishes cutting the ropes!"

[Blaze Sanaku]

"They aren't real?? Like helll the monsters aren't real!!!!" Blaze growled at Rayden, showing him the blood smeared across her arms. "Where'd you guys come from anyways?? If everything is fake and this whole thing is a mirage how do I know if you're real? You could be part of the mirage."

She was cut off as suddenly a gigantic ultima spell hit her full force, shortly followed by a curaga spell.

"Where the hell do these spells keep coming from?!?!" Blaze started shouting at no one in particular. Her head whipped towards Rayden. "They fucking felt real to me!!!!!"

"We gotta get to the other girls!" Blaze heard Hadrian's voice yell out. Blaze's eyes shot towards the voice, then they slowly traveled back to Rayden. She eyed him skeptically, then cracked her neck.

"You boys come near me and you'll regret it. Lay one finger on me, I dare you," Blaze hissed. Everything she'd experienced on the bridge was messing her up. First getting attacked by invincible monsters, then getting hit with flare and ultima only to be cured seconds afterward was one thing, but having her teammates appear out of thin air and tell her that everything was just a mirage was too unbelievable. She wasn't trusting this 'Rayden' figure in front of her.

This was getting them nowhere.

No, scratch that. Blaze being a paranoid murderer was getting them nowhere. Sho growled low in his throat.

"Shut up and stop arguing!" he shouted, pushing his way through in the direction of Blaze's voice. "I don't know if you're real, and Hyne knows I wish you weren't, but we're trying to save your asses and you're being your usual dumb, thickheaded, stubborn donkey self! Now come on! We've gotta run across the damn bridge with our eyes shut or something."

Van and Stardust

Vanesse laughed at Jaime's comment on Deo. Why didn't she think of that? That was brilliant.

"Why are you laughing?" Stardust asked her, annoyed. "This isn't the time to be laughi--"

"Ready?" Stardust heard Deo say. "Okay let's do this!" Confused, she whipped around only to get her hand yanked by him, and forcefully get dragged across the bridge. 'Hurry! Before he finishes cutting the ropes!"

"Hey wait a second!!" she shouted but quickly held back and closed her eyes instead. "Damn it!" She had no choice but to run.

Vanesse turned to the others. "All right! Let Deo lead the way." She focused her eyes on Stardust's boots and followed their lead.

Hadrian

Polaris started reacting, and Hadrian knew he had to say something. "Okay, okay, stop... I'm letting go now." He heard Blaze's death threat near him and he was sorta relieved he didn't find her first. "Exactly what Rayden and Sho said. Just don't look at whatever you're seeing and we'll do fine." He withdrew his hands from her eyes. It looked like Stella and Gemma were with them.

Few seconds later, the bridge started swaying. "I bet it's the others making their way here. Let's just go." He grabbed onto the railings and blindly charged ahead without waiting for the others.

Yes! I'm pulling them out of the hell bridge haha They've been there for months XD Poor them.

Everyone

Eventually, all of you manage to regroup on the other side of the bridge. Catching your breath, your eyes fall upon a luminous silhouette towering over you. It's only when the mist has cleared that you are able to see Adel's fortress in all of its glory.

Stardust is about to smack Deo out of frustration but gets interrupted when the bridge behind them collapses in the most malevolent fashion. A harsh wind blows past you from the impact. The man who was cutting the bridge earlier may not be an illusion afterall. Silence ensues afterwards.

Stardust blinks a couple more times before smacking Deo's head again. "I almost fell on my face!" She looks around her.

Jun pivoted on her heel at the sound of the bridge falling to pieces behind them. Just one step slower and they would all be falling into oblivion below. She suppressed a shiver at the barest thought of that happening.

"Good Heavens. Thank your forefathers for nimble feet. I would hate to imagine what a hopeless cause the rest of the world would be fighting if the best of SeeD disappears before they can even touch Adel!" She shook her head glancing beyond the edge down at the darkness, then look back up at her teammates. "So everyone okay? Missing any limbs or assorted body parts?"
