Inspired by Rica's black & white Stardust pic on deviantart dot com, with the same title. Oh, the angst of it all!!!
Sho: *frownyface* There's nothing ANGSTY about her. She's just on eternal PMS.
*thwacks Sho* Shut up, Mister-I-Have-a-Dead-Wife!!!!
Sho: ='( No need to be mean... *goes off to cry & eat cheescake*
Yeah, you do that. Anyway, I decided to take this scene out of the Mitch / Stardust fight...the part you DIDN'T see. Muahahhahahaa... *insert evil muzak here* >]
"You bitch!"
Stardust bit back another gasp of pain and propped herself up on an elbow. Mitch was approaching, his gun trained on her, looking malicious even though he was coughing up blood. "You can just go to HELL!!" he shouted.
Stardust blinked, and the world seemed to freeze.
...go to hell? Me?
Her life flew in front of her then, a continued timeline of pain and loss and suffering.
...hell...
A young girl with violet eyes, trapped under a body. She managed to push it off and knelt beside it, her eyes wide at the image of her father's corpse, the neck at an odd angle, the eyes blank and unseeing. She sobbed, reaching out, pushing the eyelids closed---
---a glimpse of Sorceress Adel, casting a Firaga on some poor, hapless villager, laughing in ecstasy as the woman screamed, her hair and skin burning, her eyes melting in her sockets, fire searing her wounds closed---
---the roar and silhouette of a T-Rexaur, and the pain of its bite on her leg; a teen Stardust screamed in sheer agony as the fangs sank into the meat of her upper thigh. Still screaming, she summoned forth Ciceronian, then nocked an arrow in the bow and released; the arrow hit its mark, the energy bolt burying itself into the right eye of the monster. The T-Rexaur drew back, roaring, and Stardust moved, crawling out of the Training Center only to collapse in the halls, her left leg bloody and mangled---
---and then, an evening sky, studded with stars, and a shadow, striding beside her in the train tracks. He was taller, his hat pulled low over his eyes, but she could still see them, so beautiful...
"Trick questions?" He tilted his head, looking confused and thoughtful. "It wasn't meant like a trick question... do I ask a lot of trick questions?"
He shrugged---
---and suddenly, he was lying silently on a hospital bed, broken and done and pale, covered in bandages, those once-beautiful eyes closed...she wondered where his bowler had gone...he loved that hat...
Stardust blinked again, and the present world returned. Mitch had pulled the trigger, and she felt the ground at her feet explode.
"Dammit," Mitch cursed. His hand shook.
Stardust moved. She grabbed a handful of dust and threw it at him, relishing Mitch's cry of pain as he staggered backwards, temporarily blinded. She rose to her feet.
"ME?! Go to hell?!" she shouted. "Well, screw you, Mitch!! SCREW YOU!!"
It was at that moment that an airship descended, and even Stardust's fury couldn't hold her body up. She collapsed, but she collapsed into someone's arms, warm and somewhat familiar...or maybe it was just her...
She caught a glimpse of her savior as he lifted her into his arms, a fleeting glance of eyes darkened with eyeliner...
...Stardust almost smiled, R..Reese...?
He looked down at her, and she saw brilliant green eyes.
No...not Reese.
"...go to HELL!"
Stardust almost laughed at the stupidity of the words.
Hell, Mitch? Then you must not know...
...I already live there.
