I hope nobody read the other thread and felt like I was basically saying "'Kay guys, we're all gonna cut characters. Now." because I didn't intend to sound that way. It was just an idea I wanted to throw out there and have everyone at least think about and discuss. But I definitely don't want to try to force anyone into being okay with something they're not okay with... So anyway, here's my attempt at a compromise. *shrug*
Like I said, this "plan" doesn't involve bullying anyone into giving their characters up. Instead, I think it might be possible to fix our dilemma by dividing things up a bit. As in, split the group of characters up -- and I'm talking about permanently. For the rest of the RP. I know, it's kind of drastic, but in my own defense I have to say that at least it isn't as drastic as cutting characters from the story entirely. I guess at this point you might be thinking, "Well how does that solve anything? They're already split up now, and you're still complaining." ^_^ That I am. Just hear me out...
Ani... You mentioned that you're up for helping out with ST work, that you'd like to do it. At the time you offered it to me I didn't think I needed your help, but as it turns out, this whole "new idea" kind of hinges on your ability to take over some ST work.
Al and I were thinking that what we would do is split the characters into two groups. I and/or would continue to do ST stuff for one of the groups, and Ani, since you volunteered yourself, if you're still interested then you would take authority over the other. Of course "taking authority" means that you're in complete control of your own side of things, so if you want to share ST work with others or ask someone to help you it's really all up to you. It would be your little domain completely and you could run things however you want.
Like I already said, these two groups would be separated permanently. Their storylines would branch away from eachother and inevitably become very different. They would have different objectives and trials, different enemies to face, different everything... Because of this, there would have to be no contact between the two. Trying to merge two different ongoing storylines could potentially massively screw up the overlying plot. So anyway, I guess it would be like literally cutting the RP in half -- they would be two different pieces of the "Awakening" story.
Actually, it would be more like running two separate RPs than it would be cutting the RP in half. I hope I haven't confused anyone yet... I'm trying not to get too wordy and go off on tangents here. x.x
So, how exactly would we do this... ?
Ani, if you take on one of the groups, you would be involved in coming up with a mission for them. You would then use some NPC (it could be anyone from the game but Squall and Seifer, since they're already being used) to call together your group and send them out.
Meanwhile, in the other group we'd do the same thing. Call together the characters and send them out to do something totally different.
I guess I'm repeating myself here, but I want to stress this point: The two groups would have no contact and would not be involved in what the other is doing whatsoever. This includes any and all NPCs as well. The reason for this extreme separation is: if we try to blend the action, it's going to negate any of the benefit in splitting things up. The whole point of a permanent separation is to sort of make everyone happy. People who don't want to give up any characters can keep all the characters they want and just participate in both stories. People who only want one character can just participate in one, and it will be almost like a smaller version of Wake for them. Meanwhile Al and I obviously get our way in wanting to Story-Tell for a smaller group of characters, and Ani gets her way in wanting to help.
I'm probably overlooking something glaringly obvious, but so far it seems like this could make everyone relatively happy.
Opinions? Suggestions? Questions? Be brutally honest guys!
