Lawric lingered a few feet away from the door. The crying was really complicating things. It was making him uncomfortable, but if he left, he knew he was going to feel even worse than he already did. And she was kind of doing that I'm-saying-I'm-fine-but-I'm-not-really-fine thing that he knew girls tended to do. Would it be very wise to ignore that?
He sighed, turned away from the door, and crossed the room in the direction of the bathroom. He didn't want to leave. He just wanted things to be better, but he didn't think he was capable of mending this situation. Well, she's crying... He distractedly picked up a washcloth and soaked it with warm water from the tap. Who knows if he was doing the right thing... Probably not. This is just what he did when his niece threw a fit.
That's it. The Good Uncle card. It was the perfect distraction.
He rung out the washcloth and turned, "You know, you remind me of someone right now." He crossed the room in long strides, coming back over to the couch. "Here," He sat down beside her and brought the washcloth to her cheek, gently wiping away the sheen of wetness left by tears. He smiled slightly and placed the washcloth in one of her hands. "She's the most important girl in my life. Her name is Ava." He shifted off the the couch to pull his wallet out of his back pocket. He couldn't help but grin when he withdrew the picture; it made him grin every time.
He held it so Jun could see. In the picture, there was a little girl with short brown curly hair wearing a floral print dress.
"My niece. Three and a half years old." he announced. "She's beautiful, opinionated, strong, smart... and she cries every time Uncle Wicky leaves." He glanced at Jun with a small smirk.
