A winged creature made up of bones suddenly landed before them in full force, swinging its raving claws momentarily after its deafening screech.
What is that? Stardust sprung back and lifted Ciceronian for defense, scanning the monster as she did so. A couple of them already started attacking.
"This beast is a creature of Death itself!! Healing spells are an almost instant kill!!" Reese yelled at the top of his lungs. "Anyone with curative magic or medicines use it now!!"
Stardust tightened her jaw. Her eyes didn't leave the bony monster. Diwata could probably take care of this undead beast.
“I got it!” Stardust answered and brought her free hand to her forehead to summon her GF. We need you, come out... she ordered. Casting her hand forward, she waited for Diwata to take shape.
Few seconds had passed nothing but another yelp from the creature was heard, no Diwata, no healing magic. What are you doing?!
/Oh no, no, no...There is no way I’m kissing that thing./ Diwata said in a smug tone that made Stardust irate.

What? What are you saying?! This is no time for your ‘rubbishness’. Come out now...! she argued with her conceited GF. Stardust’s focus was once again shifted at the Abadon as it started to head for them.
Never mind you useless GF! she spat and decided to leave Diwata alone. There was no need to bother with such a stuck up GF.
Stardust looked at her inventory and pulled out a Phoenix Down. An item that she had been saving for a quite a while now. Who would’ve thought that it was going to be handy here. Targeting the monster, she chucked it towards its rib cage sending the bottle crashing and pouring its content all over the Abadon's body.
The unfortunate Abadon let out an agonizing howl as the Phoenix Down took effect. Bit by bit the bones collapsed like blocks of adjoined marrows suddenly crumbling when hit by something from within. Soon, the great Abadon was no more.
Stardust brushed the beads of snowflakes off the jacket around her and gazed at what was left of the Abadon that was unknown to her.
Whatever that was, it sure was lame.

Jun placed her sword into her sheath, a tad disappointed that she didn't have a chance to use it against the creature. She'd been hoping for a challenge.
She desperately wanted to laugh when she witnessed the gigantic beast crumble into dust from a mere bottle of Phoenix Down thrown at it by Stardust.
"Man, from the looks of that hideous thing, you would've expected it to put up a better fight. Perhaps its size and claws were strictly for display purposes." She laughed. "Look but don't touch hahahaha."
She walked around the site where the Abadon had been towering over them. All that was left of it was a pile of greyish-white dust, its color faint enough to be easily camouflaged by the snow.
She spotted a pile of dark stones a few steps away.
Curious, she stooped down to examine them.
A tiny symbol was carved onto the stones. She recognised it as the symbol representing the Flare magic.
"Hey! That creature left us some Flare stones! How generous!"
Gathering them in her hands, she gave one to each of them and looked at the remaining four.
"Finders keepers." She smiled, and placed them into her inventory bag.
They'll come in handy someday.
She turned to Reese. "So, shall we? We still have a long way to go, I suppose?"

"So, shall we? We still have a long way to go, I suppose?" Reese heard Jun say, and turned to her.
"Actually, we don't have much further. The Abadon's appearance means we have less than a mile left." he took a few steps over to where the ashes of the creature lay and nudged them with the steel tip of his toe.
"This creature is a creature of death, created by Esthar for the sole purpose of guarding the entrance to this elevator. It thrives on death, growing stronger as it devours the corpse of anything and everything it finds." he glanced around and took a step away from it, back nearer to his previous position next to Jun. "But we shouldn't linger here. Like I said, it thrives on death, and it even thrive on it's own death and revive itself in a matter of minutes. Kind of handy for guarding entrances..." he trailed off.
He began walking. "Alright then, this way. We should be inside the city soon enough."

"Alright then, this way. We should be inside the city soon enough." Reese said and strode off.
/Ah, finally. I thought we will never get there./ Diwata whined.
Don't talk to me. Stardust followed Reese afterwards. She couldn't wait to get to Esthar.

"Alright then, this way. We should be inside the city soon enough." Reese said, and started walking, Stardust following closely after him as usual.
Jun was genuinely glad to hear that the distance to the elevator was not as far as she had thought.
I'm tired of trying to convince myself "There's no wind and no snow!" when it's friggin Winter Hell over here. She exhaled gratefully, her breath coming out in a white puff.
{Right.}
Then she heard Gone mumbling something about chocolates and dropping them.
"Stop whining!" Jun turned irritably to him. She trudged up to him and stuffed her remaining chocolates into his hand. "There, happy?"
Turning on her heel, she quickly followed Reese's and Stardust's footsteps.
I'll be damned if I waste another second here. Esthar, here we come! Her mouth curved up with a gleeful smile.

Gone stared mournfully at the place where his chocolates fell. It was covered with ash, even if the fifteen second rule was still in effect, he wouldn’t be able to eat the ash covered chocolates. He grumbled about them under his breathe. He really liked chocolate.
"Stop whining!" Jun said and then stuffed chocolates into his hand. "There, happy?"
Gone grinned and nodded. Then munched on his chocolates, like a content child, as he followed after Reese and his puppy. He briefly wondered what Stardust would look like with cute little doggie ears, and a tail to wag. Before shaking his head and deciding he liked her much better the way she was.
After he finished eating the chocolate, he kissed Jun and then jumped quickly out of range of her sword. He coughed/laughed. “Now there, love, that was just me saying thank you. I mean you’re like my hero now. You gave me chocolate!”

So they continued on, Reese in the lead.
As he trudged through the snow, carefully alert, from the corner of his eye Reese saw the side of a glacial wall flash. He immediatly turned in mid-stride and went straight for it.
"This is our entrance..." he said aloud. Finally. His hands groped the icy surface of the wall, his fingers carefully brushing over the ice gently, slowly. "Now if I can just..." he murmured to himself quietly.
His fingers stopped moving and seemed to grasp at the air. "Invisible ladder." he commented, reaching up to grasp the next invisible bar. As he stepped up onto it and began to climb, there was another flash, and for an instant the metal bars he was climbing on were revealed.
He climbed upwards two or three more bars and groped the air, his hand eventually resting on more 'air'. He gave a hard pull on whatever it was he held and a giant hole, at least four by four feet, seemed to 'appear' in the wall of ice. "Invisible door, too. Smart, those Estharians. Okay, in we go."
He clambered into the hole clumsily.

Jun had only headed a few steps forward when someone sneaked up to her and kissed her left cheek.
What the f....? She brought a hand to her cheek and whipped around.
That someone was Gone.
"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?" She yelled at him, rubbing vigorously on her cheek with the back of her hand.
Oh no. No one will kiss me without my expressed consent and get away with it! Her eyes glowed dangerously.
She reached back, and pulled Tien Nü out of its sheath.
Glowering at him, she thrust it at the laughing Gone, who jumped away just in time to avoid being slashed by her sword.
“Now there, love, that was just me saying thank you. I mean you’re like my hero now. You gave me chocolate!”
She stalked up to him and grabbed his collar. "NEVER pull that kind of stunt again. Or else...!" She stared at him, leaving the end of the threat dangling.
She turned away, placing her weapon back to its rightful place.
Great Hyne! He could have at least given a warning!
{Why? Will you be less resistant to it if he told you first?} Sapphy sneered.
Oh, shut up! She seemed to be telling her GF that a lot lately.
She hoped no one had seen the flush creeping across her cheeks.
As they walked on, it wasn't long before Reese stopped before a wall seemingly made of ice.
"This is our entrance..." he said aloud, searching around it with his fingers, and climbed up a ladder that was "invisible" at first sight. He seemed to tug at something. A hole, large enough to accomodate a human body, appeared in the icy wall.
"Okay, in we go." Reese said, and clambered into the hole.
Jun shrugged, and followed him, climbing up the ladder and into the hole cautiously.
I wonder how the other group is doing? She briefly thought , then shook her head, and continued climbing.

/ I don't remember this entrance mortal/
Well, then Why don't you say something about it.
/Don't test me child ./ "What is that horrific smell" Alaxia said in a cold wicked tone of voice

Stardust examined the extraordinary ladder hidden from the naked eye. Closely stuck to this frozen wall, its metal bars seemed to flash its existence only by the weak surge of light that illuminated it in split seconds.
Who would have thought that there would be a ladder as shrewd as this in the middle of the snowfield? These Estharians were more deceptive than she had anticipated. She lingered on that thought as she grabbed the impalpable metal bars and started climbing up, following Jun closely. Stardust felt her hands go numb everytime she ascended; the bars maybe imperceptible but the coldness that it held was not. An opening, about four feet high, was revealed to them by Reese at the uppermost part of the ladder, serving as a door towards the elevator.
Stardust made her way through it.

Auria~
Reese crawled on hands and knees through what was probably somewhere between a thirty to forty foot long tunnel leading deep into the side of the snow-covered mountain. At last he came to a five-foot drop, and climbed out head first, his bowler falling soundlessly to the metal flooring of the strange room.
His feet finally touched ground, and he immediately bent and picked up his bowler and replaced it on his head, making sure to adjust it so the angle in which it sat on his head was just right, as more of the group climbed through the hole.
The room was large indeed, the roof at least thirty feet up from the ground, the floor approximately twenty by twenty. The steel walls were adorned with various pipes, deep red and blue tubes, and a wire here and there. It all had the look of the interior of something like a submarine. At the far end of the room lay a platform of about ten by ten feet. A thin rail bar ran from the small control box at one side, ha lfway around the circular platform.
"This way, then," Reese said quietly, approaching the platform. He stepped onto it, and eventually everyone else followed suit. He looked down at the control center, he eyes scanning over the complexity of the iron stand upon which air-filled rubber pipes and pressure gauges connected.
He groped the left side of the small stand and his hand soon rested on a slender bar. He pulled it from a seventy degree angel to a thirty degree angle, and steam immediately shot from the open end of a large metal pipe.
The platform creaked loudly as it shifted downward slowly, coming to a stop in a completely different room below the last, the noise echoing off the steel walls. This room was really no different from the other, save for the fact that at the right of the platform it seemed to stretch on extremely far--miles, even.
With his other hand he pressed a large red button on the control box and a small light bulb above it lit up, the platform suddenly coming to life. It moved slowly at first, gaining speed the further it traveled, until it traveled the top-speed of twenty-five MPH. It seemed to move on tracks, but no such things were visible below the moving platform. The tunnel was lit by yellowed overhead lights.
Reese leaned against the bar. "We should be under the city in a matter of minutes. I'll give the signal by jumping off first, you all follow suit."
His gaze shifted briefly to one of the gauges on the control box. "Changed since last time..." he sighed. "And I would stop the thing, but we don't want to leave a trail for nasty little Estharians. So after we jump off we'll find another track and follow it. There's elevators snaking through all of Esthar, and they're all connected to this underground system, so that shouldn't take too much time.
"What we'll be looking from is a discoloration in the roofing of the place." he paused to look u p. "You'll notice the interior of this place is completely steel...we'll be looking for a large spot of roofing that appears a dark blue shade, with wires running from the floor," he pointed at the area where the wall met the floor. "up the wall," his finger moved up. "and into the dark blue area." his hand dropped. "This means its a spot where one of those city elevators lands. The dark-blue is just thick rubber. All we have to do is cut it open and climb up into the city."
He smirked. "Of course, lets hope there isn't an elevator currently sitting on the pad we cut. It certainly won't fall through, because the pad itself isn't what supports the elevator, but I'm sure Estharian people wouldn't be too happy if they saw us tearing up their fancy little elevators and it wouldn't do good to get caught, all the same."
"So then, the only problem we'll have is getting up high enough to even reach and climb through those spots. See for yourself, this roof is mo re than a few dozen feet high. I don't have any Floats, and I don't carry a ladder in my back pocket, so I hope you guys have some ideas." he finished.

“How about those wires that connect to the roofing?” Stardust suggested a while later, looking up to check the series of cables and pipes they passed by. She must admit that this transport system was one of a kind. The structure of the tunnel showed state of the art engineering that only Esthar could provide. It was almost amazing. Such a waste that Esthar had to fall in the wrong hands.
Placing a hand on the railing, she glanced at Reese from across her and continued, “Do you think we can use that to climb up?”

“How about those wires that connect to the roofing?” Stardust inquired. Reese opened his mouth to answer, but Daniel cut him off.
"We could always give it a go, Stardust. It might work, it might not." the man said.
Reese had the fleeting thought of pushing him over the railing and leaving him. "The wires, yes," his gaze shifted back to Stardust. "That's a good idea, but there's always the risk of our weight ripping them straight off the wall--and possible electrocution."
"Of course, some of us are lighter than others," his eyes passed briefly over Stardust's petite physique. "...maybe you could climb the wires, cut the opening with Consequence," he patted the sheath his weapon rested in. "and find something to lower down into the hole the rest of us could climb up?"

Checking to see if someone objected, Stardust glanced at the others in front of her first before saying, "All right. I can do that." She nodded. Just climb the wires, make an opening and find something that would elevate the others. She had no problem with that at all. What could possibly go wrong?
