Reese walked along behind Jun and Stardust, glancing from side to side occassionally. Now what? So many places the Emerald could be, and they couldn't exactly just go through rooms one by one and search them.
It's probably kept in a room with better security than most. Adel would know to see to that. Somie, or Laice, rather, said they were running tests on its magical properties, so it would probably be in some kind of experimental lab...
Reese suppressed the urge to sigh. He glanced at the back of Jun's head. This is great. Just wonder-fvcking-ful. None of us have any idea where we're going. Can't wait until this charade is finished and I'm back at Headquarters. How the fvck am I supposed to get the Heiress now? Maybe if I could call Headquarters we'd have a chance.
But no. Can't blow my cover. Already have that little Sanaku whore following me around, glaring at my back with that disgusting scowl on her face. Maybe once I've brought Sorceress Adel the Heiress, she'll let me hunt down Sanaku like the dog she is, and carve her eyes out. Wouldn't glare at me another second of her life. Ahh that would be nice...
"Hey!!" A man's voice tore him from his thoughts, and he almost started in surprise, turning his head to find the man that had shouted at them.
It was a dark-haired scientist with round glasses. He rushed over to them, seemingly excited over something. "Eola!" he grabbed Jun's hands in his own. "You're back! How's the cold, you're better right?! I've been so worried, you've been gone over a week!" he glanced at the group of SeeDs. "Umm..." he looked back at Jun. "Eola, who are these people?"
Reese tensed, watching Jun. Please don't do anything stupid..

Jun could feel her body tensing inside her lab coat as the dark-haired man with round glasses called her by a strange name and grasped her hands as he did.
"You're back! How's the cold, you're better right?! I've been so worried, you've been gone over a week!" He rambled on, then glanced at the rest behind her. "Umm..." he looked back at Jun. "Eola, who are these people?"
For a split second, Jun considered whether to snub him or lie her way through, for every move she made was a potential landmine. She did not know how this "Eola" usually responded to this guy, and it would be "Bye Bye Emerald" "Hello Estharian Execution" for them if his suspicions were to be raised, especially with the group behind her already catching his attention.
"I hired them for protection during my field tests. New additional research ordered by the top. I'm not supposed to tell but..." She paused, and lowered her voice. "Genetic fusion of feline cells with Haste properties." She whispered while leaning towards him to sneak a look at the guy's ID card.
John Denver.
"And thank Hyne you came along, John. I'm not feeling good at all... the antibiotics are making my head drowsy. I'm getting pretty disoriented..." She placed a hand on her forehead on the pretext of suffering from a major case of dizziness. "Could you just help me to the lab please?"
She pretended to stumble, placing her left hand on his shoulder for balance, her right still holding Perish snugly to herself. "Sorry... The room is spinning..." She said faintly.
I hope I didn't do anything wrong...

John immediately frowned in concern as Jun grasped his shoulder. He wrapped his arm around her to steady her more. Reese watched silently, mentally encouraging Jun.
"Eola!! You shouldn't be doing any kind of field work in this state of health!! I don't care what the boss says!! Does he know how bad you feel?! Here," John reached into his pocket and pulled out a keycard. "you go lie down in the lab room and I'll go talk to boss." he pushed the card into her hand. "This is just ridiculous, he can't expect you to work like this..." John turned and strode away, still speaking to himself.
He suddenly stopped and turned. "Oh! Eola! I left the gem in the cooling chambers but its supposed to be taken out within the hour. If I don't get back to the lab in time, do you think you could take it out? Thanks a bunch darling." he turned again and began walking.

Omihyne Omihyne Omihyne! If he goes to the "boss" now we'd be exposed faster than we can say geek scientist! And how the heck would we know which one is the lab? Think Jun think think think think think.... okay... here's hoping this works...
Quickly, she turned to Reese and gave Perish back to him and slipped the keycard into her coat pocket, for she needed both hands to be free.
"John..." She called out beseechingly, making her voice loud enough for him to hear and yet not too loud to give suspicion that she was faking illness.
When the man turned to her, she walked in a wobbly manner towards him and grasped both his arms.
"I know you're concerned for me, darling. But... you know how I've always been waiting to discover something totally different? I think this is it.... and I always finish what I start.... so please? If you care for me just help me to the lab... I'll be fine after a little rest..." She took a deep breath, cup ped a hand on his cheek and planted a kiss on his forehead.
Oh My Hyne, that must be the stupidest thing I've ever done to myself. Yucky! Mentally she gagged, pretending to ignore the insane cackles her wonderful GF was giving off.
"Please?" She pleaded again, then sagged against him "weakly".
Here's hoping he listens to me.

Stardust’s serious face slowly turned sour when she caught sight of Jun cupping her hands on the scientist’s face and openly kissed his forehead.
She...kissed him...
/It was just a peck on the forehead, Stardust./ Diwata giggled. /Though, I must say, that scientist sure is ugly./ The fairy cringed with her.
Stardust knew it was all for the emerald but still, it was just...rather unexpected. She glanced at the others for their reaction before silently turned to Jun and ‘John’, hoping that the former’s repugnant trick worked.

John looked at her rather strangely when she kissed him, but didn't seem to mind that much.
"Alright, alright, whatever you say Eola. C'mon lets get going then..." he halted and turned to the SeeDs. "You guys coming too or what?"
Reese nodded promptly and started toward John and Jun.

"You guys coming too or what?" asked the geek scientist.
Stardust quickly straightened up, nodded, and began following John's lead. Everything was going good so far. She just hoped nothing would go wrong.
The lab room wasn't that far from where they were. John Denver sure knew his way around. In a couple of minutes, after passing several rooms, he and Jun stopped by a sturdy looking door. Stardust stopped and carefully glanced around. It felt as if someone was onto them. She brushed it off. She was just getting paranoid.
Are we here? she thought, eyeing the lab door.

Reese gently scratched Perish's head as she purred in his arms. He would never admit how much he loved his little GF.
John swiped his keycard through the small slot at the side of the door, and ushered them inside. Tables lined the walls on the right and left, covered with various scientific tools. Telescopes, test tubes, beaker racks filled with beakers. Just standard equipment.
Straight across from them were a flight of stairs, only a dozen or so small steps high, leading up to what looked like some sort of gas chamber. The glass was foggy with blue mist, but through the fog could be seen a pedestal in the center of the chamber.
John glanced at his watch, then turned to Jun. "One second." he walked over to the table and grabbed a pair of tongs, then approached the chamber.
Reese shut the door behind him as quietly as possible, the only noise a small click as the lock fell into place. He slowly knelt down as John rotated a steel lever and the chamber door slid open, the mist drifting from the chamber.
Reese placed Perish on the ground. The small kitten-like GF knew exactly what she was supposed to do. /Hahaha this is Perish the Fierce reporting to you from an Estharian laboratory that is said to house Ediendelle's Emerald!!/ Her padded paws passed over the linolium silently as she crept up on John Denver from behind.
/Here we have the unsuspecting--rather fugly--scientist about to meet his doom at my cute little paws!!!/ Perish spoke to herself in her thoughts. She imitated the scientist. /Oooh noooo Perish the Fierce, have mercy on my poor disgusting looking soul!! MUAHHAHA NO!!! YOU SHALL DIE LIKE ALL THE OTHERS!!/
The little kitten turned at John's left leg and strutted in front of him, her tail lashing back and forth. John seemed to take no notice and extracted something small from the chamber. He turned and started back toward Jun, but halted suddenly and fell f or the floor. Perish disintegrated into thin air as Reese drew her back into his mind.
/REESIE LOOK I KILL HIM I KILLED HIM HE'S DEAD LOOK LOOK LOOK AREN'T YOU PROUD OF ME LOOK!!!!!!!/ Perish squaeled enthusiastically.
Reese ignored her and watched silently as Stardust approached John's body.

Stardust watched John Denver be cursed to death by Perish. She never expected that a GF as tiny as her could be this lethal. The black kitten was nothing that it seemed.
Walking over to where the body was, Stardust bent down to pick the gem from his hands.
"Got it," she said, staring at the frozen gem. Then she turned to face the others. "We gotta get out of here."

Reese approached Stardust, staring intensely at the gem in her hands. "It's pink." he stated. He looked up at Stardust. "Ediendelle's Emerald, it should be green. May I see it?" Stardust handed the gem to him. He turned it over in his palm, them handed the gem back to Stardust. Anger and confusion began whelling up within him.
"How can this...all this way..." he muttered incoherently, pacing across the room and peering into the cooling chamber. Nothing. He swore harshly and turned. "Nothing's in here. This is the place but the Emerald isn't here. Laice must have been wrong."
Alarms suddenly blared

They had all been witnesses to a disheartening fact... the "Emerald" that they had come this long way for was a fake. It wasn't even an emerald at all!
The enemy had been leading them, and like fools they have followed.
Laice wouldn't tell us anything if she wasn't sure of its accuracy. They must have planted the information!
"We've been set up... just as we've feared." Jun said, convinced, her face settling into a stony expression.
Yes, now that she thought back, everything had seemed too smooth, too convenient, too coincidental for it to be believable. Especially the "Eola" part. And yet she took the easy way out and followed the scientist, although she had been prepped that it would be a difficult task finding the gem.
They couldn't have known we were coming! They couldn't!
Unless...
There really is a mole among us. She thought bitterly.
The alarms suddenly blared.
"They're gonna find us any second! We need to retreat now!"
She started towards the door, but stopped abruptly.
"Wait... if this is a setup, they might be ambushing us outside the door..."
Desperately, she whipped her head around to look for an alternative exit

Gone grinned as the alarms began to blare. He loved the sound of alarms, as it usually meant a good fight was in offing. He looked at the dead scientist, I can’t believe Jun kissed him!
"Wait... if this is a setup, they might be ambushing us outside the door..." Jun said, looking about.
Gone sighed, he was really looking forward to a fight. “I suppose we could try the ventilation shafts again.” He said pointing towards one. “Of course, fighting our way out through a couple hundred people does sound appealing.”
Dan remained silent, as his comments were never appreciated anyway.

Alaxia looked at the ventilation shaft. " Its took risky if we fight it out unless we use are Gfs and Blow them away. I'll stay and u guys can escape now before they come. you guys need to find that Gem." Alaxia began to load her guns and then looked at Reese and everyone else.

Reese ignored the suggestions of everyone and took a step toward Stardust, then snatched the pink gem from her hand and threw his head back, swallowing the stone.
/Why'd you do THAT?! It's useless!!/
Precaution. Nothing's for sure. We didn't hike through five miles of snow, break into Esthar, find this lab, and make it to the heart of the place for nothing.
/Well I certainly hope you have a lovely time gagging it back up!!/ Perish squaeled.
The hinges snapped with a loud cracking noise, and the thick steel door fell to the flow with a deafening boom. Reese immediately drew Consequence and brought it up to the blade of an Estharian soldier as the first wave of attackers hit the SeeDs.

Stardust’s eyebrows came together and said, “What?” She looked down at the gem. The frost that was concealing it was melted by the room’s temperature thus exposing its light pinkish color. “What’s the meaning of this...? Didn’t Laice...”
/The emerald...it isn’t here all along?/ Diwata’s voice reverberated inside her mind.
It can’t be. Laice lied...? No, she didn’t. Did she? Her thoughts started to waver. What was going on? Was this some sort of a trick? They came all the way here for nothing.
All her frustrations deepened when the alarm suddenly went off, the whole room darkened for a split second as red lights came on and started flashing intensely. Stardust looked up. “Damn it all!” They had to get out of here. She looked around the whole room as her other teammates began to think of ways to get out.
She quickly brought her attention in front of her when she felt someone snatch the pink gem from her hands. It was none other than Reese. He drew his head back and quickly brought it to his mouth. Stardust's lips parted. Reese swallowed the gem!
What on earth?
"Wh-What do you think you're doing!?" she exclaimed.
Suddenly, the door gave in with a boom revealing a number of Estharian soldiers. They were fully armed; some held a gun, some held blades. She didn't have the chance to think and grabbed the nearest thing that was situated near her--a beaker. The soldiers immediately lunged at them. She swung back to evade the Estharian soldier's blade and swiftly threw the beaker on his face, shattering it. Bringing up Ciceronian, she aimed right through his heart and released her arrow instantly killing him.
If they couldn't pick the silent way out, then they just had to bust their way out of here.
